Responsibilities:
- Lead design and verification of welded assemblies in compliance with applicable industry codes and standards
- Develop and review engineering drawings and weld symbols in accordance with AWS A2.4 and ASME Y14.100
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, weld procedures, and design rationale
- Apply Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT) to support inspection planning and acceptance criteria
- Build and manage Creo (PTC) 3D models and associated drawing packages
- Perform supplier oversight, including on-site visits to ensure design and quality compliance
- Support customer witness activities during fabrication, inspection, and testing
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and program teams to ensure successful execution
- Assist with weld procedure qualification (WPQ) and welder performance qualification, referencing ASME Section IX
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance
- 2+ years of mechanical or welding-related engineering experience OR Master’s degree with 6+ months experience
- Welding design & verification practices
- AWS A2.4 weld symbols
- ASME Y14.100 engineering drawings
- NDE methods: RT, UT, MT, PT, VT
- Engineering documentation (drawings, specs, reports)
- Creo (PTC) CAD
- MIL-SPEC standards for fabrication/welding
- Travel: Up to 10% domestic travel for supplier/customer support
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (Section IX)
- Background in defense, aerospace, or government programs
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- NDE Level II or higher certification
- Exposure to Agile environments
