Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Mission Critical Design – Northern Virginia / Baltimore
MXI Partners is searching for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading data center and mission-critical engineering & construction contractor in Northern Virginia or Baltimore. This role will lead complex mechanical design projects across hyperscale data centers, life sciences, healthcare, and mission-critical facilities, owning projects from concept through completion while serving as a key technical authority for clients and project teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead full lifecycle mechanical design for complex mission-critical projects
- Develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from concept through completion
- Direct multidisciplinary design teams and coordinate across engineering disciplines
- Prepare and review mechanical studies, specifications, and cost estimates
- Oversee construction drawing sets including ductwork, piping, equipment layouts, and control sequences
- Interpret building, fire, and energy codes while working with code officials and design professionals
- Coordinate project documentation and ensure timely project delivery
- Support load calculations, ventilation analysis, and equipment sizing
- Partner with clients to translate technical requirements into operational solutions
- Drive quality, compliance, and technical excellence across projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related Engineering field
- 4+ years of mechanical engineering and design experience
- Experience designing systems for data centers, healthcare, labs, industrial, or commercial facilities
- Strong experience with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection construction drawings
- Working knowledge of building codes, energy codes, and COMcheck
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office tools
- Familiarity with load calculation software (Carrier HAP, Trane Trace) preferred
- U.S. Citizenship required
- PE license preferred
