Basic Function
As our Mechanical Project Engineer/Mechanical Field Engineer, you will support the Mechanical Engineers that build some of the most interesting mechanical systems in the world. You will be on the construction site daily interacting with the construction managers and stakeholders and be directly responsible for supporting the fast, high-quality delivery of our mission critical construction project. The Mechanical Project Engineer will be part of the onsite Construction Management team and will own the communication coordination with our vendors, information workflow, and coordination of document management including requests for information (RFI), change orders, report, and schedule updates supporting our Mechanical Engineering team.
Responsibilities
• Establishing communication and coordination across a mission critical construction site’s general
contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams.
• Develop and maintain a tracking system for design changes, RFI’s (requests for information), and change orders and dashboard and track this information for regional leadership review. Include tracking status of priority and due dates.
• Requesting and reviewing MOPs (Method of Procedure) for proper detail, necessity, and risk.
• On-boarding new vendors for badging and orientation.
• Updating project management software with milestone dates, correspondence, and documents.
• Monitor delivery of owner furnished material to site.
• Compiling and storing construction data from vendors.
• Managing checklist including various checklists including substantial completion checks, safety, and quality.
• Review mechanical design drawings, specifications, RFIs, and submittals (HVAC, cooling systems, airflow, equipment schematics).
• Support installation of CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, ductwork, pumps, piping, and mechanical equipment.
• Coordinate with GC, subs, electrical teams, controls/BMS, and other engineering disciplines.
• Track project documentation: RFIs, submittals, mechanical logs, schedules, punch lists.
• Participate in walkdowns, inspections, system startup, and QA/QC tasks.
• Support mechanical commissioning planning — a major driver in mission critical projects.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
• Equivalent construction experience or a strong technical background such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar disciplines may be considered in place of a directly aligned degree.
• Experience working on a mission critical facility construction project (example: data center, hospital, military facility, public safety facility, or similar)
• 1-5 years of experience in construction engineering and mechanical construction project management (cooling, HVAC, airflow, boilers, chillers, plumbing, piping, fire suppression systems, mechanical equipment integration)
• Experience in vendor negotiation and management for data center or upgrade construction contracts.
