About the project
A well-established contractor is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to take a lead on-site role in the construction of a new 8-storey, shell and core residential block comprising 35 one-bedroom apartments for social housing, specifically designed for older people. This is a city centre project of genuine social importance, requiring a technically strong and well-organised engineer who can manage a busy site environment from programme through to handover.
Key responsibilities
- Taking day-to-day ownership of site engineering operations across the full construction of a 35-unit, 8-storey social housing block
- Managing and coordinating subcontractors on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time and in accordance with specifications and drawings
- Monitoring and driving the construction programme, identifying delays early and working proactively to keep the project on schedule
- Liaising directly with the project architect, contractor's representative and all relevant design team members to resolve technical queries and manage the flow of information
- Coordinating utility service providers on site and managing interfaces between civils, structural and fit-out packages
- Overseeing shell and core construction across all 8 storeys, including structure, façade, and building envelope works
- Managing and maintaining site records, daily diaries, RFIs, submittals, and quality documentation in line with BCAR requirements
- Carrying out accurate setting out using Total Station and GPS equipment
- Ensuring full compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards throughout the project lifecycle
- Attending and contributing to site progress meetings and design team workshops as required
Essential requirements:
- Fully qualified Civil or Construction Engineer — degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related construction discipline (minimum Level 8 NFQ)
- 10–15 years' post-qualification experience in a site engineering role, with a strong focus on residential apartment construction
- Proven track record delivering multi-storey residential apartment blocks from ground up through to completion
- Demonstrable experience on shell and core 8-storey (or similar height) building projects — this is a mandatory requirement
- Strong subcontractor management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple trades simultaneously in a confined city centre environment
- Experience liaising with architects, contractor's representatives, utility providers and local authority contacts
- Thorough knowledge of BCAR (Building Control Amendment Regulations) and associated documentation requirements
- Sound understanding of Irish construction Health & Safety legislation and site safety management
- Proficient in reading and interpreting architectural, structural and services drawings
- Competent in setting out using Total Station, GPS and relevant surveying tools
- Full clean Irish/EU driving licence
- Must have an Irish work permit.
Desirable experience:
- Previous experience on social housing or local authority-funded residential projects
- Familiarity with age-friendly or supported living design requirements and associated considerations on site
- Experience working in a constrained city centre environment with active traffic and pedestrian management requirements
- Chartered membership of Engineers Ireland or equivalent professional body
