The
Department of Design and Construction (DDC) , Facilities Division, is looking for a creative and driven
Architect III to join their team in Honolulu. In this position, you'll work on moderately difficult and/or routine architectural planning, design, and support during construction work throughout the entire duration of Capital Improvement Program (CIP) or Operating Budget projects involved with the planning and design of public structures and buildings!
What You'll Do
- Project Development: assist in investigation of moderately difficult architectural problems, writing reports, and recommending corrective actions.
- Consultant Contracting: assist in processing the necessary paperwork and actions to acquire consultant services including funding and development of contracts.
- Project Planning: perform calculations and research to assist in the preparation of planning documents and design for moderately difficult projects.
- Project Management: assist and help coordinate and provide architectural review for the development of project plans, permits, designs, specifications, cost estimates, construction contract and any other documents prepared by consultants.
Special Work Requirements
- Occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment. Some physical dexterity required to occasionally perform field investigations which includes: climbing ladders and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces. Regular hours anticipated, but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday work to accommodate emergency situations, unusual problems or workload.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education Requirement
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related field.

Experience Requirement
Two (2) years of non-registered architectural work experience.
Such Experience Must Have Demonstrated
- Knowledge of principles and practices of architecture and architectural engineering;
- Knowledge of structural design principles relative to the preparation of architectural plans and specifications;
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of building construction and construction materials;
- Knowledge of legal requirements of building;
- Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, fire and health regulations as they pertain to building construction;
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of structural, electrical and mechanical engineering as applied to architectural designs;
- Knowledge of engineering mathematics sufficient to perform structural calculations.
- Ability to design, detail and draw features which are pleasing and functional for buildings, structures and installations;
- Ability to prepare building specifications, cost estimates and quantities of materials;
- Ability to prepare perspective drawings and do related art work;
- Ability to make field inspections to secure essential measurements;
- Ability to plan, lay out and supervise the work of lower-level subordinates.
Non-qualifying Experience
Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
License Requirement
Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), as required. The current vacancy does not require a driver's license.
