Role Description The BIM Lead is a full-time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC, responsible for overseeing and advancing BIM standards, workflows, and project delivery across the office. This role leads the setup, coordination, and maintenance of BIM models for structural projects, ensuring model quality, consistency, and interoperability with architects and other consultants. The BIM Lead will support project teams by developing templates, libraries, and automation tools, troubleshooting BIM-related issues, and providing hands-on guidance during project execution. They will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to align BIM deliverables with project requirements, schedules, and quality expectations. The role also includes mentoring and training team members, evaluating new BIM technologies, and contributing to continuous improvement of digital design processes within the firm.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in BIM authoring tools (e.g., Revit, related structural plug-ins) and model coordination platforms (e.g., Navisworks, BIM 360 / ACC).
- Experience defining and implementing BIM standards, workflows, templates, and content libraries for multi-disciplinary or structural design projects.
- Ability to manage complex project models, including clash detection, model audits, and coordination with architectural and MEP models.
- Knowledge of structural systems, materials, and detailing; prior experience in a structural or architectural engineering environment is an asset.
- Familiarity with interoperability and data exchange (e.g., IFC, CAD integration, model sharing protocols) and an interest in automation or scripting (e.g., Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python) is beneficial.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to train, mentor, and support colleagues with varying levels of BIM expertise.
- Relevant post-secondary education in engineering technology, architecture, structural engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
