Company Description - Capital City Awning is a third-generation, family-owned company that has been operating since 1946 and is one of the largest awning providers in the Midwest. With over 30 team members and strong annual sales, the company specializes in fabric awnings for retail, restaurant, commercial, institutional, and residential clients. Capital City Awning also designs and fabricates unique fabric items, including visual components for major retail brands and national restaurant chains. The company has long-standing partnerships with well-known clients that rely on consistent product quality and dependable service across multiple locations. In addition to new installations, Capital City Awning offers design assistance, prototype development, repairs, and ongoing support for completed projects.
Role Description - This is a full-time, on-site Designer/Architect role based in Columbus, OH. The Designer/Architect will create and refine awning and fabric structure concepts, translating client requirements into detailed architectural designs and technical drawings. Responsibilities include collaborating with sales and project teams, selecting materials, ensuring designs meet safety and building standards, and coordinating with fabrication and installation teams for accurate implementation. The role involves managing project documentation, contributing to prototype development, and supporting design adjustments throughout the project lifecycle. The Designer/Architect will also participate in client reviews, provide design recommendations, and help optimize design workflows and integration with internal systems.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Architecture and Architectural Design, with experience turning concepts into practical, buildable solutions.
- Knowledge of Software Development and Integration concepts sufficient to collaborate on design-related tools, CAD/BIM workflows, or internal system enhancements.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills, including planning, scheduling, coordination with cross-functional teams, and meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency with relevant design software (e.g., CAD tools), and ability to interpret and produce technical drawings and specifications.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and capacity to work safely and effectively in a fabrication-focused environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, sales, fabrication, and installation teams.
- Degree or equivalent experience in architecture, industrial design, or a related field, but not required; experience in awnings, signage, or building envelope design is a plus.
- Familiarity with building codes, structural considerations, and materials used in exterior fabric structures is beneficial.
- Intellectual curiosity, eagerness to learn, stellar communication skills and attention to detail.
Salary Range - $65,000-$75,000
