Job Title: Architect
Job Description
This role offers an experienced architect the opportunity to lead complex projects from concept through closeout, with a strong focus on workplace, high-end retail, and large-scale adaptive reuse for public-sector clients. You will apply deep technical expertise in design, documentation, and coordination while leveraging Revit and related tools to deliver high-quality, code-compliant, and thoughtfully detailed environments. The position is ideal for a professional who enjoys balancing creative design with rigorous technical execution and sustainability-focused practice.
Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in all phases of architectural projects, including programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and project closeout.
- Conduct thorough programming activities to understand client needs, functional requirements, and user experience goals, and translate them into clear design concepts and space plans.
- Develop and refine design solutions that respond to project goals, site conditions, and user needs, while maintaining a strong focus on aesthetics, functionality, and constructability.
- Perform ADA and building code reviews to ensure that all designs and construction documents comply with applicable accessibility and life-safety regulations.
- Coordinate with MEP and other engineering disciplines to integrate building systems seamlessly into the architectural design and resolve technical conflicts before construction.
- Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents using Revit and other design tools, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all project deliverables.
- Lead or contribute to permitting processes by preparing required documentation, responding to plan check comments, and collaborating with authorities having jurisdiction.
- Select furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) that align with project design intent, budget, and performance requirements, and coordinate with vendors and consultants as needed.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and product data to confirm conformance with design intent and project specifications, and provide timely feedback to project teams and contractors.
- Respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) during construction, providing clear and concise clarifications, sketches, and directives to support efficient project delivery.
- Oversee or support project closeout activities, including punch lists, as-built documentation, and verification that design and quality standards are met.
- Work on workplace and high-end retail projects or large-scale adaptive reuse projects for government agencies, adapting design approaches to suit different programmatic and operational needs.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to maintain strong communication, resolve design and coordination issues, and support successful project outcomes.
- Utilize Revit, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, and related tools to produce and review design presentations, construction documents, and coordination drawings.
- Apply knowledge of sustainability frameworks and best practices to inform design decisions and support project sustainability goals.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards, documentation quality, and project delivery processes within the practice.
Essential Skills
- Professional degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
- 8+ years of experience in all phases of a project, including programming, design, ADA and building code review, MEP coordination, permitting, technical drawings and detailing, FFE selection, submittal and RFI review, and project closeout.
- Proficiency in Revit for design development, documentation, and coordination.
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite for design presentations, diagrams, and visual communication.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for reviewing, marking up, and coordinating construction documents.
- Experience with workplace and high-end retail projects or large-scale adaptive reuse projects for government agencies.
- Strong experience producing and coordinating construction documents for ground-up and interior projects.
- Solid understanding of ADA requirements and building codes as they relate to architectural design and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate architectural work with MEP and other engineering disciplines.
- Strong technical detailing skills and experience in developing buildable, well-coordinated details.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and project phases while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with sustainability frameworks and professional accreditations such as LEED, WELL, PHIUS, and the Living Building Challenge (LBC).
- Experience working on ground-up projects from concept through construction.
- Experience with retail environments and customer-focused spatial design.
- Experience with adaptive reuse projects, particularly for public or government facilities.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for legacy projects or supplemental documentation.
- Familiarity with construction administration processes, including submittal review and RFI responses.
- Strong visual communication skills for presenting design concepts to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Interest in integrating sustainability, wellness, and high-performance building strategies into design work.
Work Environment
The role centers on a professional design and documentation environment that relies heavily on digital tools such as Revit, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD for project delivery. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and consultants, to coordinate complex workplace, high-end retail, and large-scale adaptive reuse projects. The work involves a balance of focused production time for detailed construction documents and active coordination with project partners during design and construction phases. The position may require periodic site visits to review progress, address RFIs, and support project closeout, while most work occurs in a studio or office setting with modern design and collaboration technologies.
