Role Description The Design Manager will oversee façade and cladding design activities from concept through to construction, ensuring designs are technically robust, compliant, and aligned with client specifications. This full-time hybrid role is based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with a mix of office, site, and home-based work. Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating design information, managing internal and external design resources, and reviewing drawings and technical documents for accuracy and buildability. The Design Manager will liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, lead design meetings, track design progress, and manage design-related risks and changes. The role also involves supporting tender submissions, contributing to value engineering, and ensuring that designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and fire safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong façade and cladding design experience, ideally within specialist contracting or building envelope design.
- Proficiency in reading and reviewing technical drawings and specifications; familiarity with CAD or BIM tools is highly beneficial.
- Solid understanding of UK building regulations, fire safety requirements, and cladding-related standards.
- Proven experience managing design processes, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing design approvals.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, consultants, and site teams.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities, including managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Experience in the London or wider UK construction market and familiarity with main contractor practices are advantageous.
