Building Engineer:
Our client is seeking a Building Engineer to support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a high-rise commercial property. This role is ideal for a hands-on facilities professional who enjoys troubleshooting building systems, maintaining a safe and efficient environment, and delivering responsive service to tenants and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across multiple building systems in a fast-paced property operations environment.
This role is onsite in Portland, OR.
Building Engineer Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on building systems, including HVAC equipment, plumbing, lighting fixtures, and electrical components.
- Inspect and maintain mechanical systems, including heat pumps, fan coils, rooftop units, ventilation equipment, motors, belts, and condensate systems.
- Conduct regular building rounds across mechanical rooms, rooftops, and common areas to identify operational issues and ensure proper system performance.
- Complete assigned work orders, estimate required materials and time, and perform repairs in accordance with established service standards.
- Document maintenance activities, system issues, and completed work within the facility work order or CMMS system.
Building Engineer Qualifications:
- Experience in commercial building maintenance, facilities operations, or related trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or general construction.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems with the ability to troubleshoot routine maintenance issues.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order tracking tools preferred.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in mechanical spaces or on rooftops.
