Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced
Building Engineer to serve as the technical lead for facility operations across multiple commercial and industrial sites, including office, warehouse, and production environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong expertise in
HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, preventive maintenance, and facilities management.
You will be responsible for ensuring the
safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems, while driving continuous improvement initiatives, managing vendors, and supporting production uptime. This is a highly visible role that requires strong problem-solving skills, leadership, and the ability to work cross-functionally.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and building systems
- Perform and schedule preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance activities
- Manage and prioritize CMMS work orders, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation
- Conduct routine facility inspections to proactively identify issues and implement solutions
- Coordinate and oversee third-party vendors and subcontractors, ensuring quality and compliance
- Plan and schedule maintenance work to minimize disruption to operations and production
- Support procurement of parts, tools, and maintenance materials
- Maintain attic stock inventory and ensure critical spare parts availability
- Troubleshoot complex system failures and implement corrective actions
- Generate purchase requisitions and manage maintenance-related documentation
- Partner with operations, production, and site leadership to align maintenance priorities
- Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA regulations, and company policies
- Continuously improve maintenance procedures and operational processes
Required Skills/Education:- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school certification preferred
- 5–10+ years of experience in commercial building maintenance, facilities engineering, or plant maintenance
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Commercial HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, RTUs)
- Electrical systems and troubleshooting
- Plumbing systems and general building maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Experience using CMMS systems for work order management and maintenance tracking
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Experience in maintenance planning/scheduling is a plus
- Proficiency with basic computer systems and maintenance software
Preferred Certifications:- EPA Universal Certification (Section 608)
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification
- Journeyman Electrician or Plumbing License
- Boiler Operator Certification
