NOVA Engineering and Environmental is seeking an experienced Senior Building Enclosure Consultant / Designer to support our growing Central Florida operations. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional based in the Orlando, Florida metropolitan area who thrives in a consulting environment, possesses strong technical and design expertise, and is passionate about building science, forensic investigations, and high-performance enclosure systems.
This position offers the opportunity to lead technically challenging projects involving building enclosure consulting, remedial design, forensic investigations, quality assurance, and performance testing across a diverse portfolio of commercial, educational, healthcare, multi-family, institutional, and industrial facilities.
Position Overview:
This role combines technical consulting, remedial design, forensic investigations, project management, and construction-phase services focused on roofing, waterproofing, façades, fenestration, and building enclosure systems. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader within the team, supporting both existing facility assessments and new construction enclosure consulting.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Leading and performing peer reviews of architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals with an emphasis on building enclosure systems.
- Developing remedial and retrofit design solutions for roofing and building enclosure systems for existing facilities.
- Providing building enclosure design support for new construction and renovation projects, including technical details, specifications, and performance-based recommendations.
- Conducting visual building enclosure assessments, moisture investigations, pre-design evaluations, and property condition assessments.
- Leading forensic investigations related to roofing and building enclosure failures, water intrusion, system deficiencies, and constructability concerns.
- Performing and overseeing field testing of roofing, waterproofing, window, curtain wall, and façade systems in general accordance with ASTM, AAMA, TAS, and ANSI standards.
- Conducting quality assurance observations and construction-phase services to evaluate compliance with contract documents, manufacturer requirements, design intent, and industry best practices.
- Preparing technically sound reports, repair recommendations, design narratives, specifications, construction details, and investigative findings.
- Managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and providing technical leadership for building enclosure, roofing, waterproofing, and facilities-related assignments.
- Coordinating with clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and internal project teams throughout all phases of project delivery.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in building enclosure, roofing, waterproofing, or related consulting, including hands-on remedial design and investigation experience.
- Strong background in building enclosure design, detailing, constructability reviews, and repair/rehabilitation of existing systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and resolving issues related to constructability, system integration, durability, thermal performance, air and water control, and long-term maintenance.
- Professional licensure as an Engineer or Architect preferred, but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of clear, concise technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications / Certifications:
Highly desirable credentials and certifications include:
- Registered Roof Consultant (RRC)
- Registered Waterproofing Consultant (RWC)
- Registered Roof Observer (RRO)
- Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (BECxP)
- Additional building enclosure or commissioning-related certifications considered a plus.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform work in varying outdoor environmental conditions and temperature extremes.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, and perform observations from elevated locations and mechanical lifts.
- Occasional overnight travel, both in-state and out-of-state, may be required.
- Ability and/or willingness to obtain certification to operate mechanical boom lifts.
