Our client, which is an energy company is looking forward to recruit for the position of “Resident Civil Engineer (Cable & Substation - 400KV)” for their upcoming project in Abu Dhabi UAE.
General Description
The Resident Civil Engineer (RE Civil) is responsible for the on-site supervision and technical oversight of civil and structural works executed by the EPC Contractor.
Based on site, the RE Civil ensures that all civil construction activities are performed in compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, applicable international standards, and local regulations. The role contributes to the successful delivery of the project by ensuring construction quality, safety, technical compliance, and proper coordination throughout the execution phase.
The RE Civil acts as part of the Consultant’s supervision team, working closely with the Client, the EPC Contractor, and the Consultant’s project management team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Civil and Structural Works Supervision
- Perform on-site supervision, inspection, and monitoring of civil and structural works carried out by the EPC Contractor.
- Supervise works including earthworks, excavation, backfilling, foundations, concrete structures, steel structures, buildings, roads, drainage systems, and underground networks.
- Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and agreed construction procedures.
Quality Control and Compliance
- Verify compliance of civil works with project specifications, international codes and standards, and local construction regulations.
- Monitor the EPC Contractor’s quality control processes related to civil works and verify implementation on site.
- Identify non-conformities, construction defects, or deviations and report them formally, following up on corrective and preventive actions.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
- Monitor HSE compliance related to civil construction activities on site.
- Ensure that civil works are carried out in a safe manner, in accordance with approved risk assessments and method statements.
- Report unsafe conditions, near-misses, or incidents related to civil works and support corrective actions.
Technical Review and Coordination
- Review civil-related EPC submissions including shop drawings, method statements, material submittals, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and technical documents.
- Ensure effective coordination between civil works and other disciplines (electrical, mechanical, systems, and commissioning).
- Participate in site technical coordination meetings and provide technical input on civil construction matters.
Materials, Inspections, and Work Acceptance
- Supervise and witness site activities such as formwork inspections, reinforcement checks, concrete pouring, curing, and structural erection.
- Verify conformity of construction materials delivered on site (concrete, steel, aggregates, etc.) with approved specifications and certifications.
- Monitor workmanship quality and readiness for work acceptance milestones.
Reporting and Site Records
- Maintain accurate and detailed site records related to civil works, including daily site reports, inspection records, NCRs, punch lists, and progress tracking.
- Prepare and submit daily and weekly reports highlighting progress, quality issues, risks, and observations related to civil construction activities.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, site-based position.
- Occasional travel to other project locations may be required.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, night shifts, or weekends during critical construction phases.
- Compliance with all site access, safety, and security requirements is mandatory.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Proven experience in supervision of civil works within EPC or large infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, concrete works, earthworks, and structural works.
- Familiarity with international standards and codes
- Experience in site reporting, inspections, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid UAE driving licence
- Candidate should have either 400 KV experience in either cable or Substation project.
- Interested candidate should be willing to work in multiple locations across Abu Dhabi and surrounding areas.
