Role Description The Building Envelope/Science Engineer Group Lead is a full-time, on-site role based in Edmonton, AB. In this position, the individual leads a team of building envelope engineers and technologists, overseeing project delivery from concept through construction and commissioning. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing building envelope assessments, designing and reviewing details for roofs, walls, windows, and foundations, and performing condition reviews, energy and moisture analysis, and failure investigations. The Group Lead coordinates project schedules and budgets, mentors and develops team members, ensures quality control on reports and drawings, and collaborates with clients, architects, and contractors to provide practical, code-compliant solutions. The role also involves supporting business development activities, contributing to proposals, and helping shape the strategic direction of the building science practice.
Qualifications
- Strong technical expertise in building envelope and building science, including design, analysis, and troubleshooting of envelope systems.
- Proficiency with relevant engineering tools and software (e.g., CAD/Revit, modeling tools, analysis software) and sound understanding of applicable codes and standards.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including team management, mentoring, workload planning, and promoting a collaborative, inclusive work environment.
- Excellent project management abilities, including managing scope, budget, schedule, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, and presenting findings to clients.
- Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng. or eligibility) in a relevant discipline such as civil, structural, mechanical, or building science.
- Experience in consulting or construction environments, particularly with building envelope design, rehabilitation, and forensic investigations.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability, with a continuous-improvement mindset and openness to new technologies and methods.
- Ability to work on-site in Edmonton, AB, and visit project sites as required.
