A growing specialist façade contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Designer to join its expanding Design team. Working across commercial, residential, healthcare, education and mixed-use developments, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced façade professional to take ownership of technically complex projects while playing a key role in the continued growth of the business. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication, coordination and leadership skills, and will be confident leading projects through RIBA Stages 4 and 5. The business places significant value on professional qualifications and technical competence, particularly in support of Building Safety Act compliance and the evolving requirements surrounding high-risk buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and technical delivery of façade, cladding and curtain walling packages through Stages 4 and 5.
- Take ownership of project coordination, ensuring design quality, programme requirements and client expectations are achieved.
- Develop detailed design information, fabrication drawings and construction details.
- Manage interface coordination between façade systems and the wider building structure.
- Coordinate directly with client teams, including Architects and Façade Consultants, throughout project delivery.
- Work closely with contractor teams, including Design Managers and Project Managers, to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Maintain regular communication with internal Estimating, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Project Management teams.
- Attend design team meetings, technical workshops, site visits and project reviews.
- Review and resolve technical challenges throughout design and construction stages.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, Building Regulations, Building Safety Act requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Support and mentor junior designers, helping to develop technical knowledge and best practice across the team.
- Contribute to design standards, technical excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Requirements
- Extensive experience within façade, cladding and curtain walling design.
- Strong understanding of façade interfaces, construction detailing and building envelope design.
- Proven experience leading façade design packages through technical design, coordination and delivery stages.
- Ability to confidently manage projects through RIBA Stages 4 and 5.
- Excellent technical knowledge of curtain walling, rainscreen cladding, glazing systems and associated products.
- Strong AutoCAD skills.
- Experience coordinating with Architects, Façade Consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers.
- Strong understanding of design responsibility, technical compliance and project delivery processes.
- Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Professional qualifications relevant to the role would be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of Building Safety Act requirements and compliance processes is highly desirable.
- Full right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- Experience using Logikal or similar façade software.
- Knowledge of Schüco, Reynaers, Technal, Senior Architectural Systems or similar systems.
- Understanding of BIM workflows and digital project delivery.
- Knowledge of the Building Safety Act, CDM Regulations and Golden Thread principles.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring design teams.
- Experience working on higher-risk or technically complex façade packages.
