About Surya Sound TempleSurya Sound Temple is a private music sanctuary in Bushwick, Brooklyn—built for instrumentalists, producers, and artists exploring sound as both craft and consciousness.
Our studio operates as a living ecosystem of projects, classes, and original instruments, including:
- Electrobones – a handcrafted wooden MIDI percussion instrument and acoustic pickup system
- Khartal – reimagined ergonomic hand percussion rooted in traditional Indian rhythm
- Speedbag Drummer – a rhythmic training system merging percussion and movement
- Art of Tabla – a focused practice and class centered on traditional tabla technique and rhythm
- Flakeb00k – a visual art and storytelling project
In addition to classes and sessions, we design and sell original products and instruments, bridging physical craftsmanship with modern sound practices.
This is a focused, intentional environment—not a typical studio.
Role OverviewWe are seeking a Studio Assistant who can support daily operations while also deeply understanding and engaging with our projects.
This role is ideal for someone who is not just looking for studio experience, but who resonates with the intersection of music, rhythm, design, and creative development.
ResponsibilitiesStudio Operations
- Assist with daily setup, organization, and flow of the space
- Prepare the studio for classes, sessions, and creative work
- Maintain cleanliness and a calm, focused environment
Content & Media Support
- Capture photo/video during sessions and project development
- Assist with editing and posting content
- Help document instruments, classes, and creative processes
Marketing & Outreach
- Support promotion of classes, products, and studio offerings
- Respond to basic inquiries and messages
- Assist with community engagement
Administrative Support
- Help manage scheduling and bookings
- Organize files, contacts, and internal systems
- Assist with onboarding collaborators or instructors
Qualifications- Multi-instrumentalist (drum kit strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of rhythm, percussion, and musical environments
- Genuine interest in Surya Sound Temple’s projects and direction
- Comfortable in a hands-on, evolving studio environment
- Basic experience with content creation (photo/video)
- Organized, reliable, and proactive
Bonus:
- Familiarity with recording equipment or DAWs (Pro Tools a plus)
- Interest in world music, instrument design, or sound-based practices
Compensation- Part-time hourly rate (1 day/week)
