Project Architect
Multifamily & Affordable Housing Focus
Denver, CO
About Us
STUDIO Architecture (STUDIO) is a national architecture firm rooted in Colorado with deep experience in affordable and workforce housing. We create communities that inspire pride, foster connection and improve the daily lives of the people who call our projects home. From sustainable, zero-energy ready mountain workforce housing to market-rate, urban-infill development to student housing, we combine creativity with a deep respect for a project’s context and long-term success.
STUDIO has several new market-rate and affordable housing projects in communities across the country. While prior affordable housing experience is not required, this is an opportunity to apply your extensive multifamily technical expertise and project management skills to new work that combines community design with social impact. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on complex design challenges, values a culture of idea-sharing, craves responsibility and independence, but most importantly, believes in the power of architecture to strengthen our communities.
About the Role
We are seeking an exceptionally experienced and technically proficient Project Architect to join our collaborative team in our Denver office. At STUDIO, opportunity is built into everything we do. For our team, it means real responsibility from day one; the chance to stretch your skills and the space to make an impact.
An exceptional candidate will have the skill and experience to independently develop drawings sets; lead a team of designers, drafters and consultants, and apply their technical knowledge to multiple wood-frame housing projects at one time. You will be expected to have the experience, responsibility and skill to independently lead multiple project teams and meet production goals and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Experience leading teams through the production of schematic design, design development and construction document sets for multiple medium to large multifamily residential and mixed-use projects (100+ units) at the same time.
- Experience coordinating with specification writers, structural, MEP, civil, and other specialty consultants throughout all project phases.
- Direct and guide drafting staff during schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
- Develop building envelop and system details for primarily wood frame projects with a focus on constructability, energy efficiency, and moisture and air management.
- Integrate building, energy, and accessibility code requirements into designs.
- Manage internal and remote teams, track schedules, resolve production issues, and regularly report back to principals on progress.
- Experience working with different AHJs and building codes to ensure compliance while overseeing entitlement, building permit reviews and responding to permit and housing authority comments respectfully and efficiently.
- Participate in construction administration as needed, including attending OAC meetings and responding to RFIs, submittal reviews, and producing field observations.
- Some travel required.
Qualifications
- Requires a minimum of 15 years of architectural experience on primarily wood-frame multifamily residential projects.
- Active architecture license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture required.
- Track record of strong project management, communication and coordination skills.
