Coordinator – Civil & Utility (NYC – Five Boroughs)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced BIM Coordinator to manage and support civil and utility modeling efforts for infrastructure construction projects across NYC's five boroughs. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in 3D modeling of underground utilities, site work, and civil systems, and is proficient with BIM tools used for clash detection, coordination, and field collaboration. Knowledge of NYC utility standards, agency protocols, and local permitting is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and maintain 3D utility models (water, sewer, gas, electrical, telecom, stormwater, etc.) using Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and related platforms.
- Coordinate and integrate models from design consultants, subcontractors, and in-house field teams to ensure all civil and utility systems are accurately represented and clash-free.
- Conduct and lead clash detection sessions using Navisworks Manage and communicate issues to the appropriate teams.
- Prepare and update BIM Execution Plans (BEP) for civil infrastructure projects in accordance with company and NYC agency requirements (DEP, DOT, MTA, etc.).
- Work closely with field superintendents and project managers to ensure constructability and model accuracy reflect as-built conditions.
- Produce utility coordination drawings, plan/profile sheets, and 3D visuals to support preconstruction and construction activities.
- Support subsurface utility engineering (SUE) integration and manage input from survey and point cloud scans where applicable.
- Collaborate with engineers and drafters to prepare and submit permit drawings to NYC agencies (DEP, DOT, DOB).
- Maintain and manage BIM data in platforms like Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, Procore, or similar.
- Assist in the integration of 4D scheduling and field layout workflows using model-based data.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in civil/utility BIM coordination on infrastructure or utility projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks Manage, and Revit. Experience with Trimble Business Center, InfraWorks, or OpenRoads is a plus.
- Familiarity with NYC civil utility standards and specifications (DEP, DOT, Con Edison, National Grid, Verizon, etc.).
- Strong understanding of subsurface utility coordination, trenching, pipework, and right-of-way conflicts in dense urban environments.
- Ability to read and interpret civil and utility design plans, profiles, and field markups.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work across design and construction teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in NY Metropolitan Area is a must.
- Knowledge of geospatial data integration (GIS) and SUE coordination.
- Experience using point cloud data or 3D scanning tools for existing conditions modeling.
- Working knowledge of construction field technology such as Trimble, Topcon, or total station layout systems.
- OSHA 30 certification.
