Job Title: BIM Engineer – Structural
Location: Saudi Arabia
Role Purpose
The Structural BIM Engineer will support the development, coordination, review, and management of structural BIM models and related digital deliverables across design development, IFC readiness, shop drawing production, construction coordination, as-built development, AIM preparation, and digital handover.
The Structural BIM Engineer will work under the guidance and reporting of the BIM Manager / closely with the Technical Engineering Team to ensure that structural BIM information is accurate, coordinated, technically aligned, constructible, properly documented, and compliant with the project BIM Execution Plan, Model Development Standard, Level of Information Need, BIM QA/QC procedures, Common Data Environment workflows, and ABCC Technical Engineering requirements
The role requires an engineering-based BIM professional, not a drafting-only profile. The candidate shall be capable of supporting structural BIM production, model information quality, technical coordination, clash resolution, constructability review, shop drawing coordination, openings and embeds coordination, site support, QTO / 4D / 5D readiness, structural asset information, and project digital delivery workflows.
Key Accountabilities
Structural BIM Production & Model Information Quality
- Develop, update, and maintain structural BIM models in accordance with approved project BIM requirements, model standards, naming conventions, shared coordinates, grids, levels, worksets, and CDE workflows.
- Model and manage structural elements including foundations, piles, pile caps, raft slabs, retaining walls, basement structures, columns, beams, slabs, cores, shear walls, transfer structures, stairs, ramps, podium structures, steel framing, trusses, connections representation where required, embedded items, sleeves, openings, and related structural components. in coordination with design intent and construction requirements.
- Prepare structural model views, plans, sections, elevations, details, schedules, opening layouts, embedment layouts, penetration coordination views, and model-based drawing outputs using Revit Structure and related tools.
- Ensure model information is accurate, coordinated, structured, and suitable for design coordination, shop drawing production, construction support, quantity take-off, 4D/5D readiness, as-built updates, AIM, and handover.
- Maintain consistency between BIM models, structural drawings, specifications, RFIs, TQs, site instructions, approved materials, design changes, and construction methodology requirements.
- Review structural model content before sharing to identify modelling gaps, duplicated elements, incorrect levels, incorrect grids, incorrect member sizes, missing parameters, unresolved warnings, opening conflicts, embedment issues, and information quality issues.
BIM Coordination, Clash Detection & Model Review
- Support multidisciplinary BIM coordination between Structure, Architecture, MEP, Civil / Infrastructure, Façade, Interiors, specialist systems, temporary works, and Trade Contractor models.
- Review federated models and identify structural coordination issues, geometry conflicts, opening and penetration clashes, embedment conflicts, equipment support conflicts, slab edge issues, façade support interfaces, MEP containment conflicts, access constraints, and constructability risks.
- Support clash detection, issue review, and clash resolution using Navisworks, ACC Model Coordination / BIM Collaborate, BCF, Revizto, or other approved coordination platforms.
- Attend and actively participate in BIM coordination, technical coordination, design coordination, structural coordination, and construction coordination meetings.
- Present assigned BIM issues clearly, explain structural coordination constraints, propose practical resolution options, update action trackers, and follow up assigned actions until closure.
- Coordinate with the Technical Engineering Team and Structural Engineering Team to ensure proposed BIM solutions are technically acceptable and aligned with design intent, specifications, authority requirements, structural constraints, constructability, sequencing, and site conditions.
- Escalate unresolved or high-impact coordination issues to the Senior BIM Coordinator, BIM Manager, and relevant technical discipline leads where required.
Shop Drawing, Construction Documentation, As-Built & Handover Support
- Support structural shop drawing production from coordinated BIM models and approved IFC design information.
- Prepare and support structural plans, sections, elevations, concrete outline drawings, steel coordination drawings, foundation layouts, slab layouts, column/wall layouts, opening drawings, penetration layouts, embedment drawings, sleeve coordination drawings, builders’ work information, and interface drawings.
- Support rebar coordination and reinforcement-related model/drawing outputs where required, including coordination with rebar detailers, bar bending schedule teams, and structural subcontractors, without replacing specialist detailing responsibility unless formally assigned.
- Ensure structural shop drawings and model-based outputs are coordinated with Architectural, MEP, Civil / Infrastructure, Façade, Temporary Works, Authority, and specialist package requirements.
- Support construction documentation and package readiness by providing coordinated model views, drawing inputs, schedules, quantities, and issue resolution support.
- Support progressive as-built BIM updates by incorporating verified redlines, site mark-ups, approved changes, survey inputs, inspection records, concrete pour records where applicable, installation records, and final construction information.
- Support AIM, COBie, Asset Register, structural asset data, O&M linkage, and digital handover information where required.
- Coordinate with Document Control to ensure BIM deliverables are correctly named, revised, uploaded, transmitted, and tracked through ACC and/or Aconex.
Technical Queries, Site Support & Constructability Review
- Support the Technical Engineering Team and Structural Engineering Team in reviewing structural BIM information, resolving RFIs/TQs, responding to coordination comments, and supporting site queries.
- Provide BIM-based technical support through model views, 3D screenshots, annotated views, sections, dimensions, schedules, and coordination sketches.
- Support constructability reviews by identifying installation conflicts, temporary works interfaces, opening conflicts, embedment clashes, access constraints, slab/beam congestion, sequencing constraints, coordination gaps, and maintainability concerns.
- Assist site and package teams in understanding model information, coordinated model status, approved drawings, structural constraints, opening status, embedment status, and relevant construction constraints.
- Highlight discrepancies between design information, model information, shop drawings, site conditions, survey data, and construction sequence requirements to the BIM Manager and Technical Engineering Team.
- Ensure site-related model updates are incorporated only after technical validation and approval through the project workflow.
QTO, 4D/5D & Digital Construction Data
- Ensure model elements are correctly classified, coded, zoned, and parameterized for QTO readiness
- Support 4D/5D data for quantity extraction, CBS mapping, pour sequencing, and progress reporting
- Support sequencing data for substructure, superstructure, basement works, core works, and steel erection
Visualization & Standards
- Support model screenshots, sequencing visuals, and coordination graphics for stakeholder presentations
- Support BIM training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement, including Revit templates, Dynamo scripts, and coordination tools
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Necessary Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline (mandatory).
- Minimum 6+ years of relevant BIM experience in structural modelling, coordination, and construction-stage BIM support, with 7–9 years preferred on large-scale building, campus, governmental, mixed-use, high-rise, design-and-build, or fast-track construction projects.
- Strong structural BIM production and model coordination capability.
- Ability to review BIM models from an engineering and constructability perspective, not only from a modelling perspective.
- Strong understanding of structural concrete, steel framing, foundations, slabs, beams, columns, walls, cores, openings, embeds, penetrations, structural interfaces, construction joints, pour sequencing, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Understanding of LOD / LOIN, model health checks, QA/QC workflows, clash detection, and issue management.
- Basic understanding of quantity take-off readiness, CBS coding, 4D sequencing requirements, 5D data preparation, and dashboard reporting.
- Ability to read and understand structural drawings, architectural drawings, MEP drawings, specifications, schedules, RFIs, TQs, shop drawings, technical comments, survey data, and construction documentation.
- Strong understanding of structural concrete, steel framing, foundations, openings, embeds, penetrations, and construction joints/pour sequencing
- Working knowledge of ISO 19650, CDE workflows, naming/status/suitability codes, LOD/LOIN, and QA/QC processes
- Basic understanding of QTO, CBS coding, 4D/5D data, AIM, COBie, and digital handover requirements
Software Skills
